Hyderabad to Srisailam One Day Trip

Srisailam is 230KM away from Hyderabad, perfect weekend getaway from Hyderabad. An abode of Lord Shri Bhramarambha Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, Srisailam is one of the very few options to get away from busy city life of Hyderabad. One can breathe the fresh air during the drive to Srisailam as the road pass through Nallamala forest for a stretch of 70km. Srisailam hydro electric reservoir project on the Krishna river is situated about 13km before the temple where the river takes close to 90 degree turn. The road takes several turns from the 12 gated project to the temple as to has to climb down the hills to cross the bridge on the river. within this short stretch. This bridge seperates Telengana and Andhrapradesh states at Srisailam.

The temple is  dedicated to the deities Shiva and Parvati and is referred to as one of the twelve Jyothirlingas of Lord Shiva and as one of the eighhteen Shakti Peethas of goddess Parvati. The history of the temple dates back to Satakarnis of 2nd century. As per the temple history the architectural evidences suggests that temple was developed by Kakatiyas in 7th century and the  period of Reddi Kings (AD 1325-1448) is the golden age. One can witness the Indian cultural architectural beauty on the temple structures. There are many inscriptions on the walls and pillars of the temple. A board in the temple says that devotees used to offer their hands during the Reddy Kings dynasty, shows the deep belief on the god. The main temple is surrounded by several small temples of Shivalingas, Shiva in various avatars. Before coming out of the temple complex you shall visit the Bhramarambha temple to witness Parvathi matha. It usually takes 2 to 3 hours in the temple. One must not forget to visit Sakshi Ganapathi temple on the way to Srisailam temple, the legend says he is the witness that you visited Srisailam temple for Lord Shiva.

Once you have temple darshan, on the way back you shall stop by at the project view point and on the road side where you can park the vehicle comfortably. You can take brief step into the forest to feel the tranquility of the forest, cover yourself with the thick shadows of the bambo trees, wonder at the twisted shapes the trees take, search for onions, grab some curry leaves (there is abundant curry leave trees in this area). Satisfy your enthusiasm for  nature and move on. Mob of monkeys you will spot on every now and then on the road (caution: you shall not feed them).

The next spot that shall not be missed is Farahabad Tiger Safari. They charge Rs.1000 for the trip for 10 people. Though its called tiger safari, there are almost no chance of sighting a tiger as there are only 40 tigers in the whole forest. But still one shall try the safari, as the safari vehicle will take you to Farahabad view point 8KM away from the main road. The 8KM ride would take around 35 mins, so you can understand the thickness of the forest. On the way you will most probably find antelopes, sambars, neelghais, monkeys and wild boars, occasionally bears. Do a hawk eye to spot the animals in the continuous bird chirping background. The end point for the safari is the view point, its breath taking view of the valley and the distant lake. Shout loud to hear your echo and lose yourself in the beauty of the valley.

Head back to busy life..
