Conquering the "King of Forts" - Trekking Raj Ghad

Another trekky weekend, this time to the king of forts - Rajghad.
Rajghad Fort - the capital of Sivaji Maharaj for 26 years (source obviously wikipedia :)) is situated about 4250 feet (1295 miters) above sea level is as difficult as trekking Torna ghad (1405 miters). But you will experience the same feeling on both.

As planned on Saturday evening, we have started from Pune at 7:45 AM (supposed to be 7:00, but 45 mins is Stick's SDF, so that also included in plan). The Driver (Amit), The Emperor (iqbal), The Stick, Vijaya and GG are part of the team. I got to know later that this was vijaya's first trekk. January temperature in Pune will never allow you to go out of home without a jacket. Rajghad trekking was second time for me (ready for third time too, if anybody ask for rajghad trek next weekend :)) but for the rest of the gang it was first time. This time, we didn't carry a Google map print as Amit installed Google maps in his mobile. Cool! Emperor did navigation this time instead of stick. We stopped on Bangalore highway for breakfast, it seems vijaya doesn't like "pohe", which is not fair being in Pune, so she had to go for it!! Stick was remembering the "getting bored" incident when we went for Torna trek on the same way. She is never going to forget!

Iqoo and Amit had a bet about reading the marathi numbers. Of-course doesn't matter who won (amit won) the bet as they were not ready to share the bet result with all of us :P We reached the hill's bottom and started our trek at 11:30 AM. Too sunny! As usual I became the water-boy. All started panting after 10 mins of walk. Its common in the start of the trek. Stick was not walking very well like in previous treks, she had pain in her knees as she met with a small accident a week before. But she always have the same enthusiasm to plan the trek. (In general she and I plan the treks, but just half a day before :) . Photo session started after an hour. Then monkeys found a "nice" tree to climb. Had Gandhiji see the pic of 3 monkeys (Vijaja, Stick and I), he would have left his peaceful methods!!

Rajghad fort actually situated at 2/3 height of the hill where there is a plane area. The actual steepness of the hill starts about 20 mins of trek before this plane. The way is very much rocky and dusty - must be created by the water-flows created by rains during the monsoon season. We entered the fort through the "Chor Darwaja".

The fort was almost destroyed and only walls of the fort, small temples and water-bodies are still surviving. Again the monkeys hiding inside us came out and in the next minute we were on the wall. Captured ourselves in air with camera while jumping from wall. We all had our lunch and spent half an hour and then started walking towards the top of the hill. IQ-Ball was in full josh, going ahead of the team. Stick said "My trek atma entered IQ-Ball". It took us 30 mins to reach the top. WoWW!! The view from the top was amazing. The small river flowing near the hill made the scene very beautiful.

After spending half an hour on the top at 3:10 PM we started our down trek. Though emperor did two treks before this was the first time he climbed down the hill. All experienced the sliding effect on the dust on the way and by 5:30 PM we were at the bottom of the hill. Overall, trekking Rajghad was awesome and amazing!
