Mala Marathi Yeth Nahi!!!

Ohh!! For you too Marathi Yeth Nahi? Sorry!! It means "I don't know Marathi". This is the sentence I used more than 100 times in last 20 days. I am talking about my experience in applying for passport. After trying hard for 20 days, I could able to came till the police verification process and completed it today.

Getting an Indian Passport!! Forget about the dreams of going abroad and earning dollars. People will laugh if I say, getting a passport is my dream. Yes!! you are right, I could have done this work in my college itself. Hmm .. I'm a lazy cockroach. I am trying, rather I should say I am thinking to try for applying passport from last two years. Since I never stayed at one place more than an year.

Yeah!! coming to my experience in getting a passport, almost 1 month back, I talked to a passport agent (swetha - she looks good!!) and made a deal at 2500 rupees and her worker will go to the passport office. I took all the documents and went to her. She said, my Date of Birth (DOB) certificate is missing. Then I asked "Can't you manage". She said "everything is required". I thought if everything is required why should I pay 2500, I will do it myself. I went to passport office on 5th May (date I got after online registration) @8:30. Damn!! there is a queue with 100 people, I stood in the line keeping a pale face. Of course my face became normal after seeing 100 people behind me. (common right!!) I was there before the counter @11:30. The officer looked at me. May be he didn't liked my face, he just turn the pages of application and pointing the bank statement he said "Who issued this statement". "Citibank Sir!! I have the original with me. Please have a look at this!" I replied so politely. Hmm!! Now I am knowing my talent, I can act!!. He said "Go and get this statement attested by Citibank". I said my self in my mind "Salaa! you want bank's attestation? Then why the fuc**ng rules says the statement need self attestation??" And I asked him sooo politely "Sir, the bank may not do the attestation as this is computer generated statement." He replied "No, they will do that. Get it for me". I took an auto and went to Citibank and get the things done in 1 hour and again I was there in-front of him. He was surprised, may be he thought that he will see me after 2-3 days. Finally he put his "P" stamp (passed) on my application. There you go!! 25% work done.

May 24th. I am in office and I got a call from Chandannagar police station. The police asked me to come and see him at 4:30 evening. I went there. After waiting for 30 mins, I got a call. He simply said, "go get your owner, I need to get statement from him". He said this marathi. "Sir! Mala Marathi Yeth Nahi!!" I put a blank face. This police is at least a bit kind. He repeated the matter in Hindi. I called my owner. Though he stays 30 kms away he said he will come. Mann!! my owner appeared in my mind as lord Vishnu. He came at 6:30 and we visited police station. We got a chance to get in, at 7:30. The police took the statement and asked me some questions about my time and place of stay. And asked me to come after 1 hour. He whispered "My boss came". This is also in marathi. But some how I can make out and agreed to come after an hour. Came back after an hour. The police simply asked 200 rupees (This time in Hindhi. Ha Ha!! At moeny matter any language is fine!!), I gave. He said something again in marathi. I requested him to repeat, he told me again in marathi. "Sir! Mala Marathi Yeth Nahi!!". He again repeated in Marathi. "Sir! Mala Marathi Yeth Nahi!! Can you tell me in English". He said "Ye paper diaya na eisa likha hain, vaisa karo" I took the paper he has given, and went out. I showed this paper to the two kids "Francis and Apeksha" who stay in my apartment, and asked them to read out the paper which is written in marathi. They helped me and told me that I need to go to Yerwada police station with the documents mentioned.

May 25th: I went to police station at 10:45, the police said "Nav Kaay". I replied "Ganapathi Sir". He said "Kute ***" I replied "Kharadi" as I know Kute means "Where". I guessed the question "Where do you say". Mann!! This time he said almost a beeg paragraph in Marathi. I simply replied "Mala Marathi Yeth Nahi. Could you please talk in English?". This police is kind (reality is he need more money). He asked everything in English later. I am happy. He asked me to wait outside. I went out. He came there, and said "Give some amount naa". I replied "How much Sir". "Your wish". I put 200 in his hand. He said "I made the process very easy for you. If my friend is there, it would have been difficult for you". I added 100 more. He is happy and said "Ok, you need to come one more time and show all the originals". I got a call again at 4:30 evening and they asked me to come at 6:45. I went there. This time without any problem without Marathi, my work was done. Finally my passport verification is done and now 50% of the process is done!!
