"The Great Dying" Video - Amazing!!

This is interesting video. Even better than the much hyped movie - 2012. The video explains the devastation of 90% of the life in water and 70% of the life on land caused by an asteroid hit the earth 250 million years ago. The event known as "The Great Dying". This event is not the one that caused the extinction of dinosaurs (65 million years ago) but its worse than that. I had doubt till I watch this video - how come 90% of the life vanishes if an asteroid hit the earth at certain place as the impact will be around some hundred or a thousand miles? (radius of earth = 6400 KM = 4000 miles. Diameter = 25120 miles. So, at least the life would be survived on other side of the earth which would be 12560 miles away from the impact. If you had the same doubt its worth watching this video. But I understood its not only the impact but the secondary devastation processes ignited by the impact will destroy the life. The narrator of the video explains a possible sequence of events that may happen if some asteroid hit a city in US. (Of course we can correlate the cities he mentioned in the video with our Mumbai, Delhi etc. :))
